Singing Bowls: What Are They? The term singing bowls refers to a special type of bells. They are traditionally widely used by Buddhists. They are as well believed to have been used by Tibetan monks for meditation. The Buddhists use them to mark the end of an event or prayer. They are not hung like the other bells but are laid on their backs. They have a wide top that is open to allow for production of sound when hit. Their use has however spread all over the world and can be used for entertainment, relaxation or meditation. Their production is however dominated by the Asians. Sound is produced when the rim is rubbed using wood, leather or plastic material. Brass is the main material used in their production.
